The State of Scarborough’s Future

Having been involved in the town’s Renaissance it is extremely satisfying to feel confident about our future. Many of other costal resorts have not only lost their way but sadly have become ‘faded seaside resorts’

Scarborough adopted an amazing vision during the Renaissance period which is now a reality and is embodied in developments such as the Sands North Bay project, a world class waterpark, the largest open air theatre in Europe, which has become extremely successful, a multi-screen cinema complex in build, The SJT & Spa complex, Woodend and the Rotunda all add to our cultural offering

The success continues with a circa £50m education campus comprising a University Technical College (UTC) Coventry University Scarborough Campus and a sports village ‘that any town would beg for’. Furthermore, the re-branding and move of Scarborough TEC campus to Filey Road will ensure we have the creative talent for the twenty first century.

The Scarborough Business park has some of the best known brands in the North of England with Plaxton, Unison Ltd, McCain GB, Serverfield (who built the Shard!!) and many others including York Potash, who will ensure our commercial future with 2800 jobs during construction and potential to deliver more than twenty percent of Yorkshires GDP. We now have a stunning commercial future coupled with being a fabulous holiday destination visited by seven million people per year, making this the second most visited place in the country!

We live in a beautiful town. Just look across the bay from the Crown Spa hotel – the view is visually inspiring, overwhelming and beautiful. the natural setting of both bays is extraordinary and the harbour just adds to this also bringing heaps of cultural history; leave Anton’s on a summer or winters nights and it forms a perfect backdrop.

Add to the top of all of this the Tour d Yorkshire & the Tour d France (2019?) and it is clear to see we will stay on the international visitors’ radar! Scarborough has the vibrancy a great town needs and we are self-confident in our future.
